It is close to the thumb, but right online with the middle finger (in the palm). I can move all fingers w/o pain except for the middle finger. It seems sore. The cut was kinda deep. but I washed it over a tap water (sink), and used paper towels and pressed to stop the bleeding. I then put a butterfly stitch bandage and a big bandage (almost covering the palm, and a nice blood spot (size of about half a pinky nail), and it doesn't hurt as bad if I keep the hand half way closed. I stock paper and chemicals (laundry detergent, and stuff along those lines) at Wal-Mart. What should I do? I'm scheduled to work in 2.5 hours. Thanks...

ok so the butterfly bandage is a good idea. As for going to work with it......use a finger cot. Dont laugh but a lot of food places use them....it looks like a tiny condomn but its for your finger. that way any dirt or dust or germs will stay out. you could even cover it up with a band aid. I don't think its serious enough to take off work but you could just tell the manager what happened and that you can not lift things tonight...it is dangerous b/c that cut could open up and start bleeding. be careful.

You should put peroxide on it to kill any bacteria before bandaging it up. After that, use neosporin or a triple acting antibiotic gel on it. Then bandage it up and be very careful at work. There is also a skin glue that will seal the wound but the wound has to be completely dry for it to work. Your palm will still be tender and sore, but it will be protected from infection.
To minimize the pain when you grip things, put a gauze pad over it as thick as you need it to protect it. Be careful at work, but you can work...if you really want to.

You don't want any of those chemicals getting into the wound.
Wear some protective gloves.
If the wound opens and is bleeding, you should consider going to the hospital for some medical attention.
Good luck

If it is a deep wound and you are using your hand it may not stay closed. You should stay home tonight to let it start to heal. Or ask them for light duty, can you do that? It could get worse if you use it at work all night, all that lifting and stretching your skin.

Don't go to work - you might make it worse or get it infected dealing with those chemicals. You might have nicked the tendon that connects to that middle finger. You should have a professional look at it.

Go to the ER, just to be sure. Call in sick at work.
Better be safe than sorry.
I hope it is all ok.
