my laptop has a place to put in 3 different types of memory cards, like XD and SD, but can I just put any of?

those in the slot, or do i need to adapt it in some way?

These are generally used so you can plug cards from your camera etc into them. You can use any but they will be seen as DRIVES not as ram.

If it says it will read your type memory, then plug it in and if you are using windows, a pop up dialog box will appear, select what you want to do and then click OK.
