My family just bought att dsl, but when our cordless phone is being used my laptop looses it's wireless connection, while the desktop has internet all the time, why is this and how can I fix it?

Phones and WiFi share the same frequency so this is not unusual. You may be able to fix it by changing chanels. Log on to your router and simply change to a different channel.
There are 11 numbered 1-11 so if you are on 1 change to 11 and see if the problem goes away. You may have to experiment to find one that works.

You can try changing channels on the wireless router and the cordless phone, relocating the cordless base station, or buy a new phone that is not on the same radio frequency as your wireless router; ie 2.4 Ghz I assume. If separating the two does not work; buy a 900 MHz or 5.4 Ghz cordless phone or stick with a wired phone.

you need to upgrade to a 5.8 GHz cordless phone, problem solved.
