The key is to get the word out FAST! Put up a lot flyers with a picture and you may even want to go door to door if you have time. Put an add in the paper if it's just happened. Contact local SPCA and vets incase your pet has been brought in. You will most likely need to go to these places rather than call, and you can post a flyer there as well. There are also services that will call people in your area and give them the message, but I'm not sure how much this costs. Good luck!

My dog ran away about 3 months ago get another dog or go to dog detective and they will notify you when they find a dog that matches your description and you can work from there.
I know how it feels. It's really hard. When I was my little sister Stella's age my 5 1/2 month old lab ran away and I felt very bad. And I recently had a Jack Russell that ran away.
Hope I could help you.

I'm so sorry to hear about Lucky. You must be heartbroken. :(
There are so many "lost pet" flyers out there that yours may blend in with the crowd. Large, brightly colored flyers that are easy to read quickly have a much better chance of being looked at. A large, clear photo of Lucky on the flyers will help tremendously.
If you're able to fund a monetary reward for the return of your beloved pet, be sure to write "REWARD" in large, bold letters at the top of your flyer. This will draw even greater attention to your flyer.
Contact your local animal shelters (Animal Control, Humane Society, etc.) and ask your neighbors to be on the look out for Lucky. Many grocery stores, particularly the larger ones, and mass merchandiser stores have memo boards for customers to post things on; ask Customer Service if you may put a small flyer about Lucky there.
When you find Lucky, you may want to consider purchasing an ID chip that can be easily implanted just under Lucky's skin. Along with a collar and an ID tag (and also a rabies vaccination tag,) this will assist in Lucky's return.
Best of luck to you! I hope Lucky comes home very soon! :)

He may not have run away, someone may have snatched him up. Offer a reward and place an ad in the papers. Put posters up. Contact your local shelters. Also check vet offices: if he ran into the road and were hit, some animal lover, or the driver of the car, may have taken him in to a vet.
Now get moving.

Put up posters all over right away. Contact animal control and the humane society if they are open. Drive around the area and look for him. Put the word out to all your neighbors. Hopefully he was wearing his collar and i.d. tags! Good luck.

Put Up LOTS of posters. And if you take your dogs on walks, start taking the path that you usually take
My shih-tzu runs away sometimes, but he always goes down the same path that we walk on

I would go door to door in your neighgborhood. Unfortunately, some people do snatch dogs and then wait for you to offer a reward, so that's worth a try. I hope you find it.
