What side of nashville should I avoid when looking for a hotel?

It really depends on what you goals are when you get here.

I would avoid the direct southwest quadrant of downtown and the more industrialized buildings.

Down further south down24 you may want to reconsider the hotels I would avoid are in Antioch, Smyrna and those downtown south of Broadway (although that area is reviving). There are some good places to stay in the suburbs of Brentwood/Franklin - a.k.a: Cool Springs. Cool Springs has all the shopping and restaurants that you need, and is growing. However, hotels outside of Cool Springs in the City of Brenwood should be avoided. THey tend to be a bit dingy. Hope this helps.
