I've done this before, and you are right, you do get a little black dot. What happens is that the lens of the camera is focusing the sun properly onto the film, and of course, the film and the thin layer of chemicals covering it becomes burnt at that spot due to it.

I hope that you know that the Sun is REALLY powerful. If you took a picture of the sun from a cell phone the sun over powers the cell phone. The same thing happened to me so i asked my teacher.

You might have taken a picture of sunspots which a areas where its cooler. But that dosent mean that its cold its still like 2500 celcius or somthing
or
You could have taken a picture of a total eclipse. When the moon is between the Earth and the Sun.

A black dot does not appear in the center of the sun.
Sunspots, sites of immense electromagnetic storms, appear variously across the surface of the Sun.
You don't say if you used a solar filter, or what kind of scope or apparatus, so you sort of made this question up without researching first.
Do us a favor and use that computer of yours to look up "Sunspots". There are plenty of pictures to look at. You might even read something about them.

I don't know what you mean. I've taken many pictures of the Sun myself and seen many more, and none of them has a black dot in the centre, unless a sunspot happens to be there.

Usually you need special filters if you're gonna take pix of the sun, otherwise than that the black dot is either a planet crossing the sun or a sunspot.

The only time you see a little black dot is during a transit of Mercury or Venus. I got to see the Venus transit a few years ago and it was beautiful ... a *perfect* black dot (Venus) crossing the sun.

Sometimes this is caused by a planet moving in front of the sun, but that doesnt occur very often, and is very difficult to spot. In general, i dont know :S
