Is it time to dump the Butcher´s Apron? I´m British, but just don´t feel any affinity to that flag - it´s the flag you waived when you robbed and brutalised and subjugated the unfortunate countries you conquered, remember!

Also, let´s remember the cross is a Christian symbol, and the Union Jack had not one but three crosses in it! Britain´s NOT a Christian society and this is offensive to Muslims!

The English flag is the most offensive, it was used in the Crusades, don´t forget...

I'm not a Christian either, but I'd fight and die under that flag and all it stands for...

You are obviously not of British descent. If you are so anti-British, why do you live there? I am not British myself, but find your comment extremely immature. How dare you say Britain is not a Christian country?? What do you even know about it? I really don't think the British care if in your view its "offensive to Muslims!" Its Britain, not a Muslim country!

Obviously, England had a dark past of colonialism, slavery and brutal imperialism. Tell me, which country that at one point had power didn't do the same? Do you think somehow the British are worse than other countries?

I don't know what your background is, but I am sure that if your country had power at one point in history, it did the same if not worse than the British at the height of their power. You are probably jealous that your country was not as successful during its imperialist phase.

The British flag will not change until the politicians decide to do so, not the regular people. If the parliament is full of Anglo-Saxons from way back, there will be no change. The amount of immigrants and children of immigrants means next to nothing when changing a flag as traditional and as politically powerful in its representation as that of the UK.

Canada is a good example of a flag that has changed. Until 1965, Canada had a flag that was red with a union jack in the top corner, similar to that of australia and new zealand, except for a regional shield depicting Canadian symbols. This flag was changed in 1965 largely due to the loss of British influence in Canada after WW2. In addition, this lead to the opening of the doors to larger amounts of immigrants who grew in stature. Many became prominent politicians and ministers of state. Now multiculturalism in Canada is very strong, far more than in the UK. Canada, being a former colony, can easily accept changing flags. The UK, with its old, powerful history will not change unless the Britons want it, which is unlikely in the near future.

I find it extremely arrogant and narrow-minded for people like you to try dictating what a host country's national flag should be. If your country were full of immigrants, would you let them try changing the historical flag for which the original inhabitants had strong emotional ties? If the UK has had a dark history, that is their burden. It is not for newcomers to the country to start complaining about the flag and other British cultural icons.

Stop complaining and go to a country where you can feel "comfortable" and not "offended". Stop wasting your breath on empty, narrow minded complaints. Its not your culture, so accept it or not.

The flag will NOT change.

The flag is fine, no need to change it. The flag represents what you want to see in it.

You choose to see it as a Butcher's Apron. I don't. I choose to see it as a flag that belongs to a great nation - which would be greater still if we didn't have so many spineless t*ssers mis-managing the country.

My ancestry isn't Anglo-Saxon Brit, but i couldn't think of a better country to live in. It's a shame that the upper echelons of society who 'run' the place are such spineless entities who push this lame, unworkable idea of 'multi-culturalism' in the 1st place.

This is Britain and it's inherent culture should be prominent and should be adopted by all immigrants. Otherwise, why leave your own country. That's not to say you forget your roots, but integration is essential.

You'll find racists t*ats in every country. I imagine most if not all countries have a dodgy past. All our ancestors got up to things that's we'd find unacceptable now.

You don't forget the past, but it doesn't help to dwell on it too much either.

Britain is mostly great, anyone who doesn't like it is free to leave. Just hand in your British passport when you go.

I'm not Christian either, in fact I'm Hindu, and in no way does the Union Jack offend me. I'm not trying to be offensive, but I don't think a country's flag should be changed many many years after it was established just cuz a couple of people don't like it... all the muslims that I've talked to don't have any problem with it! Britain is essestially a Christian country, and while it does not impose Christianity upon anyone, people should still respect its Christian background.

No, I like our Union Flag, and the fact that it's been around a long time doesn't mean we should be ashamed of it. Did Spain feel any need to change their flag after their Fascist period ended with the death of Franco?

The argument about crosses is meaningless too: none of the three crosses in the flag are the Christian cross. Turkey is supposed to be a secular country, yet still includes the Islamic crescent in its flag.

Our flag is unique and dynamic, and recoginized all the world over. Get rid of it? No way.

Are you really as moronic as you sound right now? The British people are some of the most generous around. We let a lot of foriegn people move to our country every year and give you all that you need. There are places for you to worship, restaurants for you to eat in and jobs and benefits for you to claim. You can even get free English lessons if you don't have the money and can't speak the language. Are you happy though? No! And the reason is that the British flag is not to your liking. Are you really trying to make people hate you? I certianly think from your attitude that you are not and never will be British in mentality.

Get over it. When you're ancestors or even yourself came to Britain first you should have adapted the customs of the country. And since the flag is English history as you pointed out, then it is custom and you as an immigrant (or the ancestor of an immigrant ) should respect it. What would you change it too? A crescent moon? A Buddhist wheel? Dump them all on one flag together?
Get real!!

It was used on the Crusades, well in that short statement I think you became pretty transparent. It was this "butcher's apron" which eventually permitted you Rashd to live on this island you so detest. Whilst I admit a few mistakes may have been made during the Empire a lot of good was also done. The only time the flag should be changed is if the Scottish (who are British) decide to go their separate way, not because our spineless leaders have allowed all and sundry to simply waltz into our great land

You should remember were your living! Your in Britain, if you dont like the customs and what they stand for then may you should move back to the country you and you family came from. You choose to live in this country no one's making you stay. As for the robbed, brutalised and conquered countries you may care to remember thats its part of your history which every real Britain should be proud of as its what made this country what it is today. If you want to live in a Muslim country move to one. Britain is still a Christian country last time i checked. I find it offensive that Muslims are trying to change what millions of Christian man and woman have given their lives to build and protect, i serve in the forces myself and am grossly offended by what you right, i risk my life for this country and all who live within her. I believe that everyone in Britain has the right to believe and worship what ever or who ever they want but strongly disagree with people try to force their believes on other which is exactly what your trying to do by trying to change a big part of British history and what it stands for. As for the Crusades the Christians aren't the only ones to have been at war in the name of God, Muslims have their far share of holy wars.

Defiantly NOT!!!!...The UK.is where those that now make up the non Christean part of the population decided to seek refuge in their hour of need.(or their ancestors did.)They were or should have been aware of the national flag of the country offering them salvation. No one has asked them to change their religion or would consider doing so,the UK remains a free country ;despite the best efforts of "Truthful Tony"and new labours motley crew.So if those that despise the flag wish to ignore this symbol of the UK.so be it.

If it's offensive go live somewhere else. It's the British flag and has been for centuries. We're not changing it because a minority finds it offensive.
