i am allergic to cats and my mom says i will get an allergic reaction if i am around dogs

No, only if you are also allergic to dogs. They are unrelated.

Maybe or maybe not! It is an antigen in the cats saliva that people are allergic to. You will have to see how you react around dogs. Dogs that don't shed much, like poodles and such, are usually less likely to cause allergy symptoms.

It's the cat dander that makes you allergic to cats. When it comes to dogs, that's a whole different story.
