Remember not so long ago PCs were IBMs mostly and if not, they were IBM clones?
Do you feel like nowadays they are not so much "PCs" (along with macs as two separates) but as Windows based machines?
As microsoft taken over for IBM in term of computer familiarity to customers?

Nowadays you say "PC" and most people start looking for the speech police.

I agree that Windows-based computer is more the term these days. But 20 years ago that people were still using the term "xerox" as a verb... It took awhile for copying to become commonplace enough for that to stop. Nowadays people who've recorded a TV show to watch later say they "Tivo'd" it- regardless of their brand of DVR.

It's not surprising that Microsoft is the brand-name associated with computers, since over 90% of computer users have at least one Microsoft product (the operating system)

Oh yes, not so long ago, it seems, I had an IBM pc133mghz with win 95 on it. I did a 10 hour class to recieve the pc. I was so proud, It had 32mb ram, a 345mb hdd, 100watt power supply, A big flat take up a lot of space, computer, and I had win95Plus, it had a lot of extras. Extras I wish I could get now. But can't. Like the screensavers. They were so cute, with the dog digging holes in the desktop. Microsoft felt guilty, so they brought a dog back to xp in the file search.

yes, I remember the first pc and didn't we have xp also??? I tried to sell my ibm pc and advertised it as a pc... a lady called and said, "they are all pc's" and I said "no, this is a 'real' pc.." hahaha but the point is that pc meant "personal computer" back then, and still does.. I no longer use the term pc, but use the word 'computer' .. the personal computer, the servers, the laptops, etc are all blurring the pc term.. but do fall under the word 'computer'..
