No, it's based on a short story by Stephen King and there's lots of stories about haunted hotel rooms so you might have heard some story, maybe even Stephen King heard some story, but it's based on his work.

No, the movie is based on a short FICTION story written by Stephen King. You are familiar with the term "fiction," right? It means it's not real. There's people spreading rumors that it's based on a true story, probably started to sell more copies of his book (which was lame) or tickets to the movie but it's FICTION. The movie is based on a story, 1408, in his book of short stories. I think the title is EVERYTHING'S EVENTUAL. But it's a lame book. I bought it thinking the story might shed some light on the movie but, my mistake, they should say it's LOOSELY based on the short story.

1408 is based off Stephen King's novel, but the novel was based on occurrences of The Hotel del Coronado's room 3502
