my niece just broke her arm like 10 mins ago her skin looked like it sunk into her arm and everyone ran crying like somebody died...was all that necessary and when will she be back from the hospital?

Some people panic at strange things, like the people who drive into a tree when a bee flies into the car, even if they have no allergic reactions to bees, the bee freaks them out. Another example is the person petrified of dogs who can't even get near the tiny little submissive dogs.
The emergency room is easily four hours. Most likely she will be x-rayed and and wrapped up. She may have to wait for a cast until after the weekend because sometimes they wait until the swelling goes down before they put a cast on. Be sure to ask for a colored cast (hot pink?) and for an extra $20 or so she can get a cast that is waterproof so she can swim this summer. Call the relatives and make them aware of these options.
Add more time and stress if the break is bad and requires screws and surgery. Then the panic and crying was actually justified as the kids pain will be acute and prolonged. Buy and adjustable fan that you can aim at the cast. They are very warm.

it it necessary to show concern when a child gets hurt and it will probably take a little while before she gets back they will have to do ex-rays and depending on what kind of break she has, if crushed she will have to have surgery each break is different. but healing will take a while around 6 weeks or so
