i usually ignore them,but I have confronted people if they talk bad about me...i refuse to let another rumor get me down

I repeat back to them what they said in the form of a question:
"So, what you're saying is that you don't like my car? Do I have that right? I do? Okay. Got it."
Don't give them any satisfaction by reacting, just repeat what they said and tell them you understand (but don't agree or disagree).
Drives 'em nuts.

I normally don't have that problem, but I would just ignore them. I received that advice from a very nice man I know.

That is my specialty,(or so I think) probably the combo of the glare and the snide(yet clever) remark is usually enough to stop the madness.
