Garlic can be toxic, like onions, if dogs or cats ingest enough of it. If garlic really worked that easily, we wouldn't have fleas.
1. Use Advantage or Frontline on ALL the pets and apply it every 2 weeks for a few treatments so there is a heavier aplication on the pet. Remember, these products do NOT get absorbed into the bloodstream, which makes them incredibly safe (unlike Hartz or Biospot).
2. Use a spray like Raid that kills hatching eggs and spray all carpeted areas and under furniture. Let dry thoroughly before letting pets back in treated areas.
3. Wash all pet bedding weekly.
4. Get several doses of Capstar from the vet and give it twice a week. This will help kill the adult fleas faster.
5. Forget about outside. It is too difficult to try to kill fleas outside as the adult flea lives on the pet. Eggs and larvae are basically immune to outdoor sprays (the stuff that kills the eggs does not work in sunlight).
6. You are continuing to see fleas because all the eggs have not finished hatching out yet. This could take a couple of months. Make sure there is not source of reinfection such as visiting pets or strays hanging around. Be patient and stick with the program and you'll soon be nearly flea-free. I say "nearly" because nothing will build a shield around your house or pet and they may pick up a new flea from time to time--continue with the topicals monthly YEAR ROUND and you'll soon have things under control.

what meds did you get from the vet?
Advantage, revolution and Frontline need applied every month.
capstar kills adult fleas on the pet within a few hours.. this only temporarily solves the problem as it only kills the adults, and not the eggs.
You can also use frontline or adams flea spray around your home to treat the home. You may need to treat your yard too.. diatamaseaus earth is good for that, you can find it in most stores where gardening supplies are sold.

I have always had 1 to 3 dogs at a time. We have never had a flea problem, ever. We treat the yard once a month. We also don't have any carpeting, but all ceramic tile with a few area rugs. We also have leather furniture.
I feel for you. I've heard horror stories. Try to keep treating your yard, and vacuuming your floors. You can spray their sleeping area with products, but the dogs don't like it.
Good luck.

Garlic. I have two cats, two dogs and four horses and I feed them garlic year round. Go to your local health food store and get organic powdered garlic. I give my cats and dogs 1 tablespoon in their food every time I feed them. I havn't had any problems with fleas, ticks or flies since I started it. The garlic gets in their system and in their blood stream ((don't worry they don't smell like it)) so when the tick, flea or fly bites them they taste it, they hate it so they move on. Bombing your house before you start the garlic is a good idea. I would also keep up with the medicine also for about 6 months to give the garlic time to build up.

Frontline usually works but the fleas must be in the house and you may need to have and exterminator bomb for them.
