i used a steam cleaner to try and dilute with carpet cleaner and i lightened it up alot . by the time i saw the mess it was starting to set.. i am gonna try and use a spreader to see if i can scrape some off of the carpet.

How old is your son,if he's little and didn't know any better,I hope you didn't get mad at him and yell at him.Take you anger out on the carpet and see how clean it will become.

If you know the fiber, or can find out, and it is Polypropylene, you can use a light bleach solution with water.
Do not make it too strong or it will damage the backing.
Do not use it if the fiber is or has any nylon. You will destroy the color if nylon.
Do not RUB the surface. You will fray the fibers. Blot only.
If it works, then blot all the water you can and place a towel over it with a weight, for about 12-24 hours. All moisture will blot out.
Nylon is dyed and resembles a radish. Color on the surface.
Polypropylene is solution dyed and resembles a carrot, color all the way through.
