Pain is uncomfortable and makes you hurt. Numbness is feeling nothing and taking a chance that you could hurt that area more.

Pain is pain where its not tolerable, it hurts obviously..
Numbness is when you cant feel a part of ur body but its painful sometimes and when it is painful it feels like pins and needles going through that whole area thats numb

Pain hurts - a sharp stabbing feeling.
Numbness is a tingling feeling where the feeling in the nerves is impeded or prickly.

both are uncomfortable, but numbness is more of an absence of feeling - hence no pain.
