Because the liberals have conditioned them to be dependent on the government.

Maybe most Democratic voters look to the Federal Gov't to solve their problems. I don't think the same is true of Republicans. But those who do, want something for nothnig, and usually at the expense of the productive and rich. Look at New Orleans and Katrina victims - All the news coverage was the wailing about how the REPUBLICAN Federal Government failed them. Now, the popularly elected Democratically controlled Louisiana LOCAL government has known for YEARS that a major hurricane could do major damage - yet, what did they do about preparing for it? Where was their "plan" to save their citizens? How about expecting Greyhound to send their buses gratis to pick up the locals too stupid to leave, and let hundreds of school buses flood and go to waste rather than employ them to help citizens leave? ( oh, yeah, there's no A/C on them for the welfare horde, that would have been ABUSE to make them ride THOSE things - children are ok, though ). All you heard from the Democratic local Gov't was, Why aren't the Feds rushing in to help us? Instead of DOING something constructive, they just sat back and complained, expecting everyone else to come quickly to help out. Personally, I'm glad it wiped out and washed away the pitiful losers, and will never be the same again. Nothing but a city full of waste-cases in the worst parts. Too bad other parts of the country now have to absorb them, and put up with their crime, non-work ethic, and other behavioral problems. With luck, the "new" New Orleans will be a better place. God once commanded Noah to build an ark, so he could wash away the deitrius of humanity, and start over...guess what? His way works! Hurricanes are an "act of God" anyway, aren't they? The complainers, whiners, and do-nothings are all gone (except the mayor, governor, etc - oh well, so it wasn't a "perfect storm"...), so hopefully productive people will fill the space left behind. Thanks, Mother Nature...

They don't know that states are more in control of what happens to that state than the federal government. There is a fine line though.
Hurricane Katrina. First thing is first, the state were responsible FIRST but because it was such a big disaster where the state could not get in, the government should have came in faster and these big government enthusiasts that are the government themselves like FEMA, well since the neo cons want big government control, they should also be aware that with the plans of big government and more control, it also rests in their hands.
When it comes to disasters like Hurricane Katrina, military aid IS needed. Thousands of people trapped for a week?? There is no excuse for that and how that disaster was handled is despicable and should never happen again.
Does anyone remember the man who rescued people and drove a bus to Houston only to be branded a thief and arrested? That man was a hero. He took the risk and did something for others and himself only to be branded a theif and put behind bars.
If the state and govt. isn't rescuing their own people, it's all about survivalism. What would you do?

Because many don't have enough smarts to figure out you start at the bottom and work your way up. That's also why so many blame Bush for Katrina and the aftermath in LA. None of them are smart enough to know that the mayor and governor were the ones who didn't do their jobs. They don't have a clue.
And you made a good point because how many have gotten on here complaining about the Federal government having too much control ~ and then they are the first to blame them when something goes wrong.
Maybe they (mainly the liberals) will learn a few things from your post and educate themselves before opening their mouth in the future.

because we've created a beast that now can do as it pleases, and we're all fighting the same front from 2 different sides...Republicans out there claiming to be for small government yet borrowing and spending more and more, meanwhile trying to insert more and more "moral values" laws that intrude on personal privacy all the time...and Democrats with their somewhat better intentions trying to redistribute too much wealth to help people that eventually need to find a way to help themselves...meanwhile, who gets richer and richer off the backs of the rest of us due to both sides? And neither side is willing to look at themselves or anyone who follows them in a light other than them being perfect, the reflection made in the posts I'm now adding to respond to the answers here of the "blame liberals" doesn't seem to do enough when you think of the fact that for 6 years, Republicans had full control of all 3 branches of government and did nothing to correct this problem.

Why don't more Americans look to themselves to solve their own problems first? Allowing government to solve our problems takes away from our freedom and gives government more control. Once heard this saying that might apply 'He who takes the king's shilling becomes the king's man'

Some people look to the government (especially federal) as magical. They think that the government can fix everything and should fix everything. They forget that the government is composed of nothing more than people (and an unusually high percentage of incompetent ones at that).
If you want to see the job botched horribly, give it to the government to handle.

Why don't they look...........to themselves?
Liberals want control. Pure and simple. They want the government to control everything, but only when THEY are in power.
When the Republicans control the government, they whine and whine. When individual Americans succeed, they whine and whine. They are elitist, socialist, and ignorant.
Just look at John Edwards. He preahces about the great divide in our country between rich and poor, then he goes out and pays $400 for a haircut. Liberal hypocrisy at its finest.
He wants your money, and he wants to control you.

Good question but I would take it a step farther and ask whatever happened to people sucking it up and solving their own problems?
With government gifts comes government control.
You are exactly correct.
