Martina McBride-Concrete Angel
She walks to school with the lunch she packed
Nobody knows what she's holdin' back
Wearin' the same dress she wore yesterday
She hides the bruises with linen and lace

The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask
It's hard to see the pain behind the mask
Bearing the burden of a secret storm
Sometimes she wishes she was never born

Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel

Somebody cries in the middle of the night
The neighbors hear, but they turn out the lights
A fragile soul caught in the hands of fate
When morning comes it'll be too late

Repeat Chorus

A statue stands in a shaded place
An angel girl with an upturned face
A name is written on a polished rock
A broken heart that the world forgot

Repeat Chorus

and

The Little Girl

by John Michael Montgomery

Lyrics
Her parents never took the young girl to church
Never spoke of his name, never read her His word
Two nonbelievers walking lost in this world
Took their baby with them, what a sad little girl

Her Daddy drank all day, and Mommy did drugs
Never wanted to play or give kisses and hugs
Shed watch the TV and sit there on the couch
While her Mom fell asleep and her Daddy went out

And the drinking and the fighting
Just got worse every night
Behind their couch shed be hiding
Oh, what a sad little life

And like it always does, the bad just got worse
With every slap and every curse
Until her Daddy in a drunk rage one night
Used a gun on her Mom and then took his life

And some people from the city
Took the girl far away
To a new Mom and a Dad
Kisses and hugs every day

Her first day of Sunday School, the teacher walked in
And a small little girl stared at a picture of Him
She said I know that man up there on that cross
I dont know his name, but I know he got off

Cause he was there in my old house
And held me close to his side
As I hid there behind our couch
The night that my parents died..

Christmas Shoes. I don't know who sings it, but it's about standing in line to check out some last minute gifts on Christmas Eve and the little boy in front of the guy singing the song. He has a pair of shoes for his Mom, he's dirty and poor looking, and then he doesn't have enough money to buy them. He tells the guy about his Mom going without to make sure the rest of the family had a great Holidays, and then about how she's been sick for a long time. He tells him that his Dad says she don't have much time left, and that he wanted his Mom to look good if she goes to meet Jesus tonight. Anyway, the guy singing says that he gave the boy the money because he had to help him out, and that he thought that God had sent that boy to remind him what Christmas is all about. It gets you everytime.

There's another one that comes on Christian stations that is about a father who is praying that God will spare his son from dying from a long illness, and it goes into detail about watching his child hurt and not being like other kids. And his fear that he'll never grow up and be able to do normal things, like get married and have kids himself. I think it's called He's My Son, but I'm not sure. It's a hard one to listen to.

Bizzy Bone - Nobody can stop me

It doesn't seem so bad when you first listen, but if you know his history, you will understand. he was kidnapped when he was a kid and molested, then when he was found and returned to his mother, he was beaten by her husbands and ended up in foster care. He then started drinking and selling drugs to earn a living, and had his first baby at the age of 12 years old. He has had such a struggle, and the song is so beautiful and inspiring. Also his song "Jesus" is good too. His music is not everybody's favourite but he is definately mine.

"How Do You Get That Lonely" by Blaine Larsen. It is a sad song about suicide. I was on vacation a couple years ago when it came out, and I received news that someone I graduated high school with had hung himself. He wasn't even 23 years old, and about 20 minutes after I received the call, this song came on. Talk about coincidence?

Johnny Cash's cover of NIN's Hurt. Trent Reznor said that Johnny did such a good cover he no longer considers it his song. I agree, the cover is soo much better than the original.

Although My Hometown by Bruce Springsteen comes in a really close second.
