ClO3- is the chlorate ion, Al is aluminum, so the compound is called Aluminum Chlorate.

Since the compound contains a metal and nonmetal, you do not put the prefix "tri" in front of the word chlorate. The answer is aluminum chlorate, not aluminum trichlorate.

The correct name for the compound is Aluminum Chlorate. It is NOT Aluminum Trichlorate!!!!!!! The only time a compound gets a prefix is when a covalent bond (two non-metals) occurs.
