First of all, a person has to be interested in cooking, to love to cook. Secondly, to become a chef you need to go to a school designed especially for learning about food and its preparation. If you can't afford an expensive school, I would suggest a community college that has a cooking program available. It is lots of hard work with long hours to train to be a chef and it depends on who is teaching you too, without a good instructor to help you, it can get difficult. I have seen people quitting the cooking program just because of how they were treated and how much the instructors neglected in helping them. Once you get into the learning of it all, it can be very rewarding. Like I said, you have to have determination to do it and to get what you want out of learning to be a chef. good luck and hope you get what you desire.

any college or culinary school (no matter how expensive it is) will give you a diploma that will say "PROFESSIONAL COOK". the only place that gives you a diploma that names you as a master chef is the american culinary federation. you have to join and earn the chef tittle after attending their meetings and after passing their exams . another way is if you go to school and simple start working from the bottom until you rise to be the head chef. that will take a lot of years though. good luck.

Check with your local community college, university or technical school for courses in culinary degrees. Also, it would be a good idea to obtain a position in a restaurant as a chef assistant, food runner or any position available in the kitchen or back of the house at it is referred. You can gain hands on job experience while taking classes to get your culinary arts degree. Best of luck.

Realize that it is not glamorous or well paid and that it is a dead end job that managers will abuse you because thy haven't got the stamina to do it themselves so they will back stab you if you stick up for yourself .
