It seems too low to me, that would constitute 4% of the population.

There is a video out there somewhere where a republican representative is saying in 1986 during the Reagan comprehensive immigration bill reform fiasco...that he is using the same number, twelve million. Now tell me, if it was twelve in 86' how can it still be the same twenty one years later. I'm sure most Americans see an influx of Mexicans no matter where they live. Here in central Florida where I have been living for eighteen years, there are a ton of them where as when I first moved here there were very few. I now have to compete with companies who use nothing but Mexicans. I'm all for legal immigration, my grandfather came through Ellis Island, if it was good enough for him, it's good enough for everyone. I think the number is probably closer to fifty million.

Probably closer to 20 million!

email going around....so true!

Start here and stem the tide of illegals:

ENFORCE the immigration laws on the books before making any new laws {unenforceable laws]. Also, build the entire FENCE - it has virtually stopped most illegals in San Diego where it now exist; SANCTION all employers heavily who hire illegals and DEPORT all illegals when found [it can be done with the WILL to do it!]. The bill in the Senate will NOT stop the illegals and only create 100 million* more people with great hardship for the rest of the taxpayers. * 12 million + extended family members - say 8-10 on average PER PERSON [higher number most likely] = 100 million more people almost immediately!!!

Congress is destroying this great country.

Lastly, HOW would they ENFORCE this new law when they haven't enforced the ones on the books currently???
Funny, not one Rep talked to can answer that simple question of "HOW"?

Everyone needs to read this book and get back on track!

There's that many at least on the freeways in Ca. I'm a retired Police Officer from the Ca. Az. Mexico border. Sometimes I would turn the same illegal over to the Border Patrol twice in the same day. I believe the 20 million number is closer. It's a 25 billion dollar a year industry for Mexico. I hear the Pols that favor the amnesty bill say they pay taxes. If that is the case then why does the Bill say they would have to pay back taxes. If they pay them there shouldn't be any back taxes.

It's probably accurate if 12 million is the total amount of illegal aliens in New York, Chicago and L.A. --- ONLY.
Nationwide I think a more accurate estimate would be in the neighborhood of 20 - 30 million.

I don't think we can get a very accurate number. not many will admit to being illegal, some counties protect illegals, and the number changes due to deportations and when illegals become adults and apply for citizenship. I knew many people in school who were illegal and had been here since they were children and just planned to turn 18 or 21 and go become legal citizens. most had a decent chance since they were raised here

The govt leaves our borders open to scare people into wanting a national id card. Soon only sheep with implanted RFID chips will be able to survive.

There's no way we could know the real numbers.

You might get a more rational discussion if your semantics were less inflammatory. "Illegals"??
