I live in a house that has a house beside us and the person who lived here before me paved the entire area between the two houses, now 95% of the paved area is our land and is our driveway that we park in. My neighbor always has people coming over and parking in our driveway and she doesn't say anything about it. Today my husband is at work and she had some contractors show up and they parked in the driveway, she showed up to let them in and didn't tell them to move their car. Is there anything that I can do to stop this from happening? We constantly have to tell her but she doesn't seem to care. UGH!!!

I would first ask that you directly confront your neighbor and be very specific about your concerns. If you get no response, I would then directly confront your neighbor and let her know there will be consequences. Also, make sure that your not being petty or nitpicking. She would not very ofter have bunches of contractors showing up so I would think that being a good neighbor would allow you to not worry about a week or so of extra parking in your area. Now if they are blockiing you in- that is definitely not being petty. Just remeber to have a good neighbor, you have to be a good neighbor. If you apporach the problem with that perspective you have a high chance of success.

We dad had a similar situation. we solved it by parking my 1972 Ford Maverick at the end of our property and having anything between that and our house towed. After the first towing, the frequency stopped and a "once in a while occurence" was much easier to tolerate. Eventually it blew over and the old car was sold.

You probably dont have an old car to park at the "Edge" but the idea is to acquire and secure what we called "squatter's rights". IF you possess and control a section of real estate or property, you will find it easier to exercise your will over that property.

You might try painting some lines and having the police enforce rules that permit you access to and from your property. It seems sort of kindergaren-ish to paint a line and say "don't cross this line or else" but then again, ITs not that uncommon to mark property boundaries.

One thing I discussed during my dads situation was building a fence along the property line. This would have been a permanent solution as posts concreted in to the driveway would have caused damage to a vehicle. Nobody would drive down the wrong side of the fence because then they would have had to walk all the way around anyway. We did not do this because it would have been obtrusive to our traffic and company. There were many times when it was our visitors and guests filling the shared driveway.

My sincere hope is that you work it out in a amicable fashion but this does require some effort. I think neighbors working out issues is a skill that is rapidly deteriorating in this world of test messaging and internet dating. I was in subway the other day ordering a sandwich from an electronic kiosk instead of speaking to the sandwich maker 3 feet away- egaddsssss!!!!!

From personal experience: Place several railroad ties--purchase at home depot, they are about 8' long and about a foot high, place them end to end to cover entry way between your properties. May want to place a cheap terra cotta pot on top of them or in front of them with some flowers in them in case some future visitors decide to try and drive through, at least they will now they are there. If they happen to park on your side again, call wrecker truck to get them out. This is all within legal limits and hopefully you won't tick of your neighbor in the process. Good Luck

I would install parking stones that will show the difference between your driveway and your neighbors. Another thing that may help is posting a sign so people that don't know your property line will be aware.

If you don't mind being on bad terms with this neighbor, you could tell her that in the future her guests' cars will be towed out of your driveway and then call the police when they park there.

A simple landscape timber secured to the drive that seperates your property lines would work. This would let potential parkers know that they are not on her property. A sign stating Private Driveway/No Parking on the timber would give notice.

if you own the property, have a survey done.

Once you have your property boundries known.......with in the code of your town, install a fence or a stone curb within the offset of the property line. (offset is how far back from the property line you can place a fence or curb......it's usually 1-4 feet for non-structures.

First, talk to your neighbor and ask they they stay on their side of the driveway so as to give you free access to your property. State that you would PREFER not to have to install a barrier/fence to maintain the peace.......but sometimes fences make for good neighbors!

post a sign saying that you will have someone towed at their own expence
tell the people as they come or go up and knock on the door and let them know ,,
tell her you will have the people towed
then if all else fails call the tow truck and make a believer out of them then it will stop for sure or the ffighting will become so bad the police will get involved

and you can call the cops to ticket the people as well
did you call the police ???they should have rules for your area as well good luck maybe you need to move huh??

Put up a sign at the drive that says...private drive, violators will be towed at their expense...then call a tow truck or the police next time it happens....or just take it upon yourself to tell the people parking that this is not the neighbors drive and to please park elsewhere.

Contact people who are in charge of the neighborhood. The neighbors are trespassing, and are just plain rude! Tell her one more time, warning her about any actions you might take. Then do it. You could also build a fence.

Erect a fence, or sink in steel posts and hang chains between them. Be sure to check your local city codes, you may have to offset them so many feet from the property line.
