Poems do not have to rhyme but they do have to have some sort of rhythm to the language; they need imagery and creative expression.
I used to teach poetry appreciation at the college level. I always began a class by asking the students what they thought constituted a poem. Most people feel comfortable with the rhyming forms of poetry...from nursery rhymes to sonnets, but rhyme is not a requirement.

No, not at all. Truthfully, rhyming is harder than it looks. It's not just get a rhyming dictionary and go to town. Forcing rhyme will ruin a poem faster than just about anything.

I actually prefer ones that don't. Seems like sometimes poets, in an effort to keep things rhyming, use ineffective or inappropriate words just so it WILL rhyme. I just like the rawness and brevity of the writings that evoke a strong picture or emotional response from me.

No. Poetry can flow and be beautiful without any rhyme at all. It might be 'funner' (lol)... to read when it DOES have rhyme, but in no sense does it HAVE to.
Hope this helps...

No, not really poems are word from heart, that when some one reads them, you make them feel the word by your writing.
