A New Cable also helps quite a bit.
Soak it good before installing it with any Teflon Based lube,,,like Tri Flow or RemOil(from Sporting Goods/Gun Store--Remington Gun Oil)

WalMart usually has some kind of Teflon Oil Spray.

You can make a funnel from a plastic bag.
Tear a little hole in the corner for Cable to fit thru,,slip Cable into bag,,then put a rubber band to hold bag tight to cable and "seal" it.........or tie/tape it,,whatever.
Then fill the bag,,,just like a funnel.
Lots Easier to get the oil down the cable that way.

Good Luck with it

I would lube the cable well first and see if that fixes it.
