Yes you can, to minimize that...dont accept file transfers or click on links sent to you in IM or chat.

Yes, there has been malware that targets messenger users (not just Yahoo). Usually what happens is that an infected user sends a clickable link to his/her contacts. If the contact clicks the link, they are directed to a malicious site. Other ways of getting malware via messenger is to download and open infected files.

If you don't click links in messenger, and don't accept file downloads in messenger you will be fine.

Only if you share files using messenger and if the file contains a virus. Otherwise, not possible.

No, I don't think you cna get a virus if you have the correct Anti-Virus system, but ususally you wouldn't becasue where could you get the viruses from?!?!?!
