I have a 5 ft. metal pole in my back yard witha extened hook type thing near the top, what is the point of it?

For lightning to hit it. JK. People are weird and do stuff for different reasons... Maybe it was a small flag pole or an old clothes line.

I had one of those too. If your house is more than 5-10 feet away from it than surely it is an old clothesline shaft, without the line to hang your clothes.

It's a shepherd's crook for hanging flower baskets, bird feeders or anything else that turns your crank. RScott

I have 2 in my yard one for my finch feeder and one for my humming bird feeder

Maybe it's for a hanging basket of flowers, or it could be a lightning rod.

Its probably what we call a "shepherd's hook", for hanging flower baskets or bird feeders.

for hanging a lantern, birdfeeder or one of those mosquito killer things. we had one in the back yard when we bought the house here, although ours was wooden.
