My wife and I are planning on going to Vegas for 4 days and 3 nights, but we're wondering what to expect to spend on meals? We would be getting there on a Thursday morning and leaving Sunday morning. Some people have said they have "cheap" buffets and other people have told me that they aren't as "cheap" as what they make it out to be. We're kinda on a budget vacation so we can't just go wild so does anyone have an average per day food cost?

You can still eat cheaply in Vegas, you just have to work much harder than you used to to get it done. Any buffet on the strip is going to run from $10-20 for breakfast and $15-30+ for dinner. The ones at the bottom end, like Sahara and Circus Circus aren't even worth eating so plan on a few bucks more. You can find an occasional deal in the coffee shops on the strip such as a $11.99 steak or prime rib.

The place to find the deals that remain is in the locals casinos. The Gold Coast, which is just off the strip next to Rio has an excellent buffet which is $7 for breakfast and $13 for dinner most nights. Main St. Station downtown is also great and in the same price range. Many of the locals place also have great deals in the coffee shops like $1.99 eggs and $5-10 steaks. The Ellis Island, behind Bally's has an awesome steak meal for $4.95, which is the best deal in Vegas.

Here is a great site for the run down on all of the buffets...

It somewhat depends on where you're staying and how far you're willing to go for a nice inexpensive meal. You can still get good inexpensive meals in Las Vegas, but usually not right on the Strip at the major resorts. However, you should join every slot club that you can, whether you are going to gamble or not, since most of these clubs usually have meal or other incentives just for joining.
That being said, there are usually 24 hour deals in every resort's cafe. The major buffets are more expensive on Friday nights, all day Saturday and on Sunday mornings since this is considered a brunch instead of breakfast.
Their are great meal deals downtown and the Strip bus is convenient, inexpensive and safe.
Off the Strip, you don't have to travel too far for the "locals" deals. Some you can walk to, like Ellis Island, just behind Bally's, which has a great steak dinner for $4.95 served 24/7. Hooters is a new casino right next to the Tropicana and should have some good deals. Wild Wild West is just west of the strip on Tropicana over the I-15 highway, and is quickly accesible by public bus. As well as Palace Station is just west of the strip over I-15 on Sahara. Terrible's Casino and the Hard Rock Hotel's cafe are a good walk or a short bus ride. I've included some links on inexpensive eating in Las Vegas as well. If you go to a buffet, go hungry and eat your fill since it's all you can eat. Also, keep in mind that room service and in-room mini bars are very expensive. Bring your snacks with you to the hotel from home or an inexpensive market or mini mart. You can usually get a small refrigerator brought to your room at no charge if you tell the front desk that you need it for insulin. Good Luck and have a great time!

It all depends on where you are going (on strip or off). Yes, you can find buffets for pretty cheap. However, if you want to eat at the famous Rio buffet, than you're talking about $25 per person. It's worth it. Other buffet's such as the one at Circus Circus and there is a great one at the Luxor also are in the $20 ball park.

I was on a budget as well during my last Las Vegas visit. There are plenty of places to save on food, just look around the strip and you'll see signs. $10 T-bone steaks, $1.99 breakfast buffets or all you can eat pancakes. You also have fast food joints around.

I have been to Atlantis in the Bahamas, Cancun, Mexico, and other vacations where all the food choices are always pricey. The beauty of Las Vegas is that the food choices can fit any budget. Sometimes its a search for value, but its there. However, just once, indulge yourself at an expensive Vegas restaurant. The food is World Class in many places.

The prices of the buffet in Vegas is really cheap but still it depends on the vicinity if you go away from the main strip you could find a place which serve breakfast for $1.95. I think the average buffet cost $5~10. But if you like to indulge try Bellagios or Rios buffet that is the 2 best sea food buffet that you could eat.

If you are going to gamble, then get a comp card. Use the credit points to get a discount at the buffet. Our experience is this reduces the price quite well for the buffets. The quality of the buffets are so good it will make your head spin.

I think the Rainforest Cafe inside the MGM Grand will suit you just fine. They are very kid-friendly with a very good kid's menu. The atmosphere will also keep kids entertained while waiting for the food to arrive. Prices are not too bad either, as far as Vegas prices go. I have also never had a bad meal at any Hard Rock Cafe around the world. All locations are very family-friendly.

The cheapest buffets are downtown. I once ate at the Fremont Casino buffet, and it was only about $7 per person, and great variety.
