I think you should be able to do whatever you want once you become an adult at the age of 18. Although I don't plan on becoming an alcoholic, it should be the person's choice. I guess they just want to make drinking age 21 because they want to have more kids be successful in college, and if you're a drunken bum, you probably aren't gonna pass. If the government thinks that the "21" law is gonna keep kids away from alcohol, they're mistaken, but if everyone really did follow the law it would b a lot better. Your brain also doesn't stop fully developing until u're 20, so it's better if u do wait until u're 21. As for war, ppl r gonna die in a war regardless of their age. Our country should focus more on preventing war rather than winning it.

This is a question I myself asked when I was sent overseas while in the Marines, I was old enough for Nam, but NOT to drink. BUT SERVICEMEN & WOMEN CAN drink ON base.
BUT when you think about it, and I mean give it a lot of thought. Not just the age part. If a person is drunk they can and often do make bad decisions. They do not know the results of these decisions at the time as they are drunk. And if NOTHING bad happens they will say SEE I CAN DRINK and I CAN Handle it. BUT in all reality they GOT LUCKY. NOW ENTER the serviceman/woman. They get sent overseas. And maybe into combat. THE DECISIONS they will make they do so KNOWING FULLY AWARE that they may be killed. So as such they pay MORE ATTENTION to detail as they mind is NOT under control of alcohol. SO they actually can hanlde themselves in a more mature way and stand a better chance of NOT getting hurt than they would if they could legally drink alcohol. I know there will be many people who don't agree with me, BUT just give this some thought.

There was a time when we could go to war but not vote for that war and that has changed but even the legal drinking age in some states has risen to 21. Could it be possible that our permissive society has gotten something right? The drinking of alcohol is a distructive habit. Stop while there is still time for you.

To Marcus R: Isn't waging preemptive war a a destructive habit?
At the VERY LEAST, military members should be allowed to drink at age 18, WHETHER THEY ARE ON A MILITARY BASE OR OFF BASE. It's one thing to complain that you're old enough to serve your country, but without actually signing up, the argument rings hollow.
