First off, the holocaust really happened.
Good, innocent people died because of the way they worshiped their God.
Good people out of fear can do some pretty awful things. In this case, turn in the people living in that attic.
Sometimes people can be heroic. I'm thinking of the gentile family that hid the Jews in their attic.
Linking it to you, perhaps you can feel sympathy for and revulsion at the treatment of people long dead and decide not to let those kinds of things happen around you.

I just finished teaching this subject to my 8th graders. We use the story of Anne Frank to explain the Holocaust to them, since Anne was around 13 or 14 during this time, and the 8th graders can relate to her. It teaches them how a person around their age suffered through this horrific time and how she coped under her surroundings. There are many excerpts in the book that tell what is happening outside while they are in hiding. It shows what Jewish people had to do to prepare for hiding. Mr. Frank purposefully left a letter behind at his home giving an address in Switzerland so that when his house was raided, the Gestapo would think they all fled to Switzerland. I taught my class the different options the Jewish people took during this time. I also told them that the Jewish people had no idea that they were going to be put to death. They were all given false hope of surviving. They were told to pack their belongings, put their names on their suitcases and bring it with them. Then the Germans told them to put it in these warehouses where they said it would be there when they returned from the concentration camps, when in actuallity, the Germans were going through them taking all the valuables and reselling them.
A lot of my students said they would have left or killed someone or ran away. I had to tell them, that if you did any one of those things you would be killed instantly. And that the Jewish people didn't do this because they didn't know the danger they were in. They just thought they were being relocated to work for the Germans. That's all. As soon as they heard of the killings, that's when they'd go into hiding.
The story gives an idea of what it was like to go into hiding, how long they had to suffer not knowing when they would be free once again, and the terror of this time. I really hope this information helps. :)

well...theres a lot in her diary that tells her experience during their hiding out.
She want us know to how she feels and what had been happening during that time when hiding.
Hopefully, we learn that we don't make the same mistake as her country did during that time of the holocaust.
