A damp cloth on the forehead can help. Don't cover up someone with a fever unless they want to be covered.
The body needs to stay at a particular temperature range. When someone has a fever, you need to cool their body to stay within that range.
You might also want to use a fan or air conditioner to keep him cool.
It is a huge mistake to force someone to cover up when they have a fever - you do not want to trap the heat.

You don't have to but if you want to help your brother; you will sponge him. Do everything that you can to help him through this time. Has a doctor been called? How high is his fever? Fever for a long time can cause damage.
This is important to take good care of him. Get help if it doesn't go down soon.

Well, sponging is just one of the methods of cooling him down. You may want to use these 2 techniques I know of; 1) Drink lots of water and then cover him with warm clothes and a thick blanket. He will perspire and cool off this way. 2) Use a think hand towel, wet it and put it into the freezer. Once frozen, take it out and put it on his forehead. That will cool him real fast. For best effect, have 3 - 4 so you can rotate the towels. Continue for about 2 hours and the fever should subside.

depending on his age if you do DO NOT use cold water use luke warm water cold water on a child can cause febrile seizures. because of sudden changes in temp. dont wrap him in lots of cloths an blankets because his core temp could raise to much an also cause him to seize first thing i would do is give him tylenol or motrin. Tylenol an motrin are two different drugs that accomplish the same task optimal use is tylenol (acetomedaphine) once an then use motirn (ibuprophine) the next time then go back to tylenol

If he is younger than 12yrs only use tepid water. Give him paracetamol (correct dose for age) and if you have a fan in the house, use that....
I wouldn't recommend showers or baths, or thick blankets! Keep the room normal temperature and have him wear loose cotton clothing, pj's are fine.
