I fly at least 3 times a year, and if I didn't feel safe I wouldn't. If you look at statistics more people die in car accidents yearly. We just hear more about plane accidents because so many people are killed at once!

Planes are pretty safe. As far as delays are concerned, those don't always occur because of mechanical functions (just ask anyone who's flown through Denver and/or Chicago in the winter time). Planes can be delayed due to weather (such as excessively hot weather in places like Phoenix and Las Vegas and my God do I hate the Vegas airport), whether or not the weather is in the originating city or the destination. I once was flying into Spokane and got re-routed to Seattle becasue of excessive fog.

But as far as the actual flying on a plane goes, it's pretty safe. I can't remember the last time there was a pretty big crash. General Aviation aircraft crash semi-frequently, but they fly much lower to the ground, and it's usually because of inexperienced pilots, which you won't encounter on a commercial airline... usually....

plains are safe, they dont even have hills to fall down. Planes on the other hand, are fairly safe as well, you have nothing to worry about since its safe and out of your hands anyhow.

Air travel is very safe. Go to the airport and get ready to greet your parents.
