When it comes to the procedure required to change the Constitution, ALASPADA already hit the nail on the head, so I'm not going to go into it here. Suffice it to say, however, that the President does not come in to the process. The President was originally limited to two terms by a Constitutional Amendment. At most, President Bush could ask a member of Congress to propose another Amendment to repeal the previously mentioned Amendment, but then the matter would be out of his hands. Besides, it's 2007 and the next election is 2008! How would he get his campaign machinery together in so short a time?
Also, the Constitution allows for the writ of "habeas corpus" to be suspended in time of war or in a state of emergency. It just doesn't specify WHO is to do the suspending; but since Lincoln's already done it (---during the Civil War), that sets the precedent for Bush to do it, since the Supreme Court did not overrule Lincoln.

Do you know that the President is not authorized to change the constitution. Either 2/3 of Congress must pass an amendment to the constitution for the term of president to be changed. Or 2/3 of the state legislatures can vote for the amendment to be passed without Congressional approval. Or 2/3 of the state legislatures can call for a constitutional congress to be called to pass new amendments and their work would have to be approved by 3/4 of the states. The time required, the fact that the US Congress is in the hands of the Democrats and are many state legislators does that not prove how wrong your question is and how your conspiracy plan has no way of working. This President from day one has followed the Constitution and would not attempt this major change to it.

I hope he does, but even GWB isn't that stupid.
Why do I hope he does? Because maybe then the American people would realize that a new American Revolution is LONG PAST DUE. Oh, I know, too much wishful thinking.
"What? There's going to be another season of American Idol? Well, I suppose we could schedule the revolution for sometime next year."

Its been tried in the past, it failed miserably and was the end of a political party.
I dont think Bush is that stupid. Besides, the people who truly are doing bad (Bush is more the child king figure in my view) would be just as happy getting someone else, none of Bush's pet projects that need Bush are essential.

As much as I dislike George Bush and his crew, I don't think that he would do such a thing. I think he's tired, and wants to go back to Crawford and have a drink.
It will be interesting to see what he does in retirement. I don't have great expectations of it being noble or distinguished.

I don't think it's likely, but I start to think it could be possible. I give it maybe a 5 or 10% chance of happening, which is horrifically higher than I'd normally think possible.
