I'm not a fan of Dirk, but I liked his game since he was a rookie.

I like Dirk for his ability to shoot the basketball. Last year shooting 50% from the field, 90% from the freethrow and 40% from beyond the arc. Impressive for a guy his size. There are several moments I remember when Dirk would knock down shots to keep his team alive in the closing moments of a game. I believe the last moment was in losing effort (against the Warriors if I remember correctly) Dirk knocked down critical back to back 3 pointers to keep hope alive with time running out. Dirk would really be the man if he would add a low post game to his repertoire.

Well I'm sorry to answer your question, but I don't like Dirk. I never said he was a bad player, because he isn't. He's a great shooter and versatile. But I just don't think he deserved the MVP this season, and he is also very unclutch (he was edging towards Karl Malone territory after the tragedy in this year's playoffs). Dirk was unable to step up in 2006 Finals after being up 2 games, and afterwards, started saying the Heat "stole" the ring from them? Well the Mavericks then took out their anger on the league next season as they won 67 games, and then Avery Johnson's fateful decision of resting his players, caused them to move on to the 2nd round. But Dirk's unclutchness also played a big role. His game I will never forget is game 6 played at Oakland in 2007 playoffs. He finished with 8 pts. Maurice Ager outscored Dirk. And Dirk finished with more turnovers then field goals made. Man, that is very MVP-like.

i like dirk because during the nba finals last year
he was on the line in game 3 with a couple of
minutes left with a chance to make the lead 11 points
and choaked and missed both and miami came back
and won.
i will never forget that moment or him kicking the
chair as he left to go to the locker room and how he
made SHAQ's prediction of a title come true.

yeah, I Nowitznessed his mega-flop to cap off a franchise best season, and an unworthy MVP award.
now, don't get your panties in a bunch. I think Dirk is one of the top 3 PF's in the league today. and I root for Dallas in the playoffs, as I lived thier for a period of time. but that first round flop was inexcusable IMO.

Dirk sucks. He is unworthy of the MVP because he choked in the playoffs and lost in the FIRST round.

1) First, having shot in my practice time more 3s than anyone would care to count and with my lower body strength being my biggest advantage in shooting 3s which is natural and cannot be replaced by weight training, my range on 3 point shooting can only go out to about 30 feet where I feel comfortable and hit nothing but net. The only 3s I have taken from 30 to 35 feet are in situations where my opponent gives me room and tells me usually trash like "Okay Big Man take that shot from there". I have never felt comfortable shooting a 3 pointer from near 35 feet and while my form may not look like it is changing, my form has to change as I need some extra power by pushing my arm toward the basket as all my other shots rely solely on lower body strength and wrist action for power particularly from behind the 3 point line. When challenged, motivated by the challenge, I have never missed a 35 footer in my life, but I have always hit the rim and never hit "nothing but net" from that extreme range.
2) Congratulations on shooting exactly like Dirk. I guess you must have a 2 inch vertical leap too and be 7 feet tall.
The following apply to Dirk's 2006-2007 regular season:
3) Dirk in his 8 year NBA starting career had his worst season scoring the fewest 3 pointers ever with 72 three point field goals made over an entire 82 NBA game regular season. Far below Dirk's previous starting career low.
4) Dirk in his 8 year NBA starting career had his worst season in steals.
5) Dirk in his 8 year NBA starting career had his worst season in blocked shots. When I see a player have both a career "worst season" in steals and in blocks, then that means that they are on the way down and have lost several steps.
6) Dirk had his second highest turnovers per game average in his entire 9 year NBA career.
7) Dirk had his sixth best out of eight years as a NBA starter in rebounds per game average.
8) Dirk had his seventh best out of eight years as a NBA starter in defensive rebounds per game average.
9) Dirk had his lowest points per game average in his last three years.
10) Dirk had his second lowest points per game average in his last five years.
11) Dirk's turnover per game went up this year over last year.
12) Dirk's personal fouls per game went up this year over last year.
Dallas losing in the first round had nothing to do with Coach Avery Johnson resting one or two of his starters only each game over a three or four game period before the end of the season. Coach Popovich, Coach Avery Johnson's tutor, has been doing this en masse forever like in 2007 resting the "Big Three" for the Spurs at the very end of the season to putting David Robinson on the DL for the entire last one-third of the 2003 NBA season.
Just face it, Dirk had a career worst season as a NBA starter.
Then why did Dallas win 67 games? Because Dallas had a very deep bench playing something like eleven players night in and night out at least 10 minutes per game. Mark Cuban's dollars can buy a lot of good players besides just Dirk.
I mean the Chicago Bulls never won a game with Michael Jordan only by himself as Jordan never had much more than a $3 million salary from the Bulls as Jordan wanted the Bulls to go out and pay the best players they could find to put around Jordan as Jordan was already making so much money off of endorsements.
Dallas doesn't win because of Dirk. Dallas wins because of the many quality players that Mark Cuban has signed and paid.

I really don't care for the man, but I did witness (with great JOY) the 07 best record in the NBA go for NOT, when the buzzer sounded and they were ELIMINATED in the FIRST round of the play-offs and by a team I don't follow. I did however root for later, untill they played my team.
