Today, I've received a student loan check from Bank of America for $20,000 and my mom is listed on the check as a co-payee because she is my cosigned signer. Can she sign the check at home so that I can just go and deposit it into my account, or does she have to make a personal appearance at my bank and sign it there?

She can endorse the check at home and give it to you for deposit with your signature as well. As long as you are only going to deposit the check, banks are not overly strict with endorsements. However, if you were trying to take the check to the bank in immediate exchange for cash or a cashier's check, THEN I would think the bank would demand appropriate identification before processing.

I've worked for Bank of America and Wachovia and I know with Wachovia, you actually had to be there in person and sign it. There is no way to really verify that it is her signature if she didn't sign it in front of them. I don't where you bank, but it might be a little different. I would definitely double check before you do anything.

No problem with your mother signing at home. you should sign also and below the signatures include "for deposit only" and your bank account number.

As long as the item is only to be deposited, she can sign the check at your home.

You won't get a check. You take the tax credit off your income taxes that are due. The refund check should be cashed and a document drawn up for the loan. Otherwise, the loan may never get repaid it times get tough.
