Any other non-black or non-hispanic teachers in Miami that feel you're discriminated against?

I'm white/American Indian mix, and my Indian side got hidden in the genes, so as an apparent white...
for 12 years i've noticed a pattern of discrimination, depending on who's in charge of my school at the time.
It's not overt and malicious, just obvious that when minorities take charge, they also prefer their own.

That happens when the teacher make-up of a school has a large % of same race, age, experience, sex, or social status. Just like kids, teachers usually hang w/ people they have a lot in common with. I was a "groupie" in a school w/many young "just married" teachers, then was "out of the circle" when I moved to another state w/many experienced "empty nesters". Moving down south was also an eye opener as I was the "yankee" new to their community. Never malicious, just obvious. Enjoy your experience "watching the world in action". You never know when it'll change & you'll be part of the "group" in charge.

I have seen this too. However, I agree with it. My students are all non-white. I cannot make the same connection other teachers can (as least not as easily) and I cannot relate to their experience. So, if I get a little prejudice and subconscious discrimination, it is just fine.

Like you said most times it's not overt and malacious. White people also hire their own.

Absolutely true. Been there, done that. Also true in County jobs, and in State jobs within Dade County.

Only suggestions I have are; join your Union, marry one of those that oppress you, make a point of your Native American heritage, maybe quietly start attending your bosses church, or their bosses church.
