Well sometimes a heated debate ensues with another sometimes crazy member. If you read all of someones questions they might contain hints that when assembles give a good deal of info about the person i.e. where they live how old they are family members, etc.. its to mantain anonimity.

I wouldn't choose to close my profile. My life's an open book, got nothing to hide! Sometimes when I'm not sure if a question is a wind-up or not, I go to the asker's profile to get a general idea of what the person is like. If their profile is private, I skip their questions. Another useless idea from yahoo

I answer questions mostly related to cars, alt energy, electronics, computers. But I also get involved in the heated arguments in religion and politics.
Religion and politics makes a lot of enemies for one to deal with. Many times I've had ppl contacting me with hate mail and going back to my older answers and responding to me on questions having nothing to do with the reason I made them mad in the first place.
So basically, it's a way to answer questions not related to religion or politics without having your stalkers follow you there. On the other hand, I've been able to follow ppl's answers and questions and get enough info about them to follow them all over the Internet and eventually find out who they are and where they live. The Internet is dangerous if you want to play with extremists and you have to take what steps you can to keep from finding them on your door step.

In some categories here it fairly is a necessity. There are trolls and customers who objective others that go around reporting questions/solutions that have already been resolved. keeping Q & a private prevents those form of customers from certainly stalking others in this internet site. there is been a brilliant difficulty of customers being unfairly suggested in diverse categories.

There are different reasons. Some are protecting themselves from the jerks, while others are protecting themselves from being reported. Whatever the reason, I think it limits these people to getting answers that may be good, and limits the answerers who would like to answer.

I block offensive people on a case by case basis, I do not block EVERYONE by making my Q&A's private. That ensures that only your contacts get to answer and that only your contacts are chosen as best answer. It promotes cliques, which defeats the purpose of Y!A's, in my opinion.

Because some poeple have probably asked embarrasing questions or have answered with some reference.
Google your screen name and put in "yahoo answers" beside it. You'll find everything you've said!

Don't really understand that myself. I can only figure maybe there were being stalked by someone. They don't want that person to easily locate them.
