Just make a guest appearance in front of the stumps and rotate your arms in front of the batsman not because you have the skill but the team doesn't have a fifth bowler!Wow! You are termed as the allrounder. Or you may be selected as a bowler and you repeatedly fail with the ball but occasionally you click with the bat..Or you are there as a batsman failing everytime but sometimes shining with the ball.Again you are judged as an allrounder.Honestly tell me is it not happening far too often?

Agreed. You need guys like Chris Cairns, Jacques Kallis, Andrew Flintoff, Sanath Jayasuriya, Ian Botham, Sir Viv Richards etc. for this purpose. Handing out the term "All rounder" like candy is a disgrace to those cricketers and their feats of greatness.

Genuine, classic all rounders i.e. cricketers who excel equally with the bat and the ball are a rarity these days. Maybe that is the reason why the media is charitable in turning batsmen who can turn their arms a bit and vice versa into all rounders. The limited overs versions of cricket like one dayers and 20-20s offer ample opportunities to cricketers like that to shine. Depending on their luck they can restrict the scoring rate by delivering good lengths for some 5 overs and pick up a couple of wickets in the bargain. The bowlers can also pick up some 25 to 30 runs in a few deliveries by swinging their willow without bothering about technique. You may call them Chatpata All Rounders.

no i do not think so. bowlers are not as useless in front of the stumps as they used to in the old days eg courteney walsh ,thy can smash and grab a few runs due to the overwhelming superiority of the bat over the ball in todays game( 20/20). and additionaly an allrounder just means you can do both feats to a decent level. if u can do that why not be termed one?

I quite agree with you. The people terming such players as Allrounders actually do not know what is a true all rounder means.
