I managed to reinstall Norton System Works 2002 in the last few months. You should be able to install most of the NSW without any problems but the anti-virus is more difficult. You need to download Norton LiveUpdate first and then re-register NSW and it will allow you to reinstall Norton anti-virus.

You are better off without it. Just get Norton antivirus or Norton Internet Security. Works can cause problems.

Download & run the uninstall prog http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039 then restart your machine then search your registry for any remaining norton garbage - then re-install from scratch. If still pants then change products to the more professional & more resource friendly prog Kaspersky Internet Security.
