"Moon Bat"
the moon often times represents madness or insanity "Howling at the moon". You see it in words like "Lunatic" (Luna - moon)
Bats are chattering swarming little mammals. They seem to poor out of caves and dark spaces and fly madly about. it is where the term "Batty" comes from.
Some bats seem to become more active and "Insane" during full moon periods, their swarming seems to intensify, which is probably where the term originates, but it has come to mean the ultra far left.
The Ultra far left often times they seem to chatter and fly about apparently aimlessly at first, but during some peak event, say for example during an anti war rally they begin to swarm. Now normally you would see one or two but add some kind of occurrence and they swarm and go mad, much like some bats and the Full moon. suddenly they gain a swarm mentality they become frenzied and irrational. they become like the bats they are named after.
There is no reason or understanding. they are of one mindset, and this frenzied action will exist for the entirety of the event.
Now personally I think the term is over used. But I come from the San Fransisco bay area, I can assure you the term is very appropriate, despite what people like "Oh yeah" claim.
Oops, you wanted a definition :
MoonBat - noun
Ultra far left liberals that swarm during public events. Usually seen with large bulging eyes and screaming illogical and often time irrational statements based on opinions and feeling rather then facts.
Rarely noticeable in small numbers as the Average Moonbat is rather inconsequential as an individual, however once a swarm has gathered they become noisy irrational and are prone to attack violently at ideas that conflict with their own.
Never approach a moonbat swarm. Despite appearing harmless they carry a viral form of lunacy that the average human immune system can not resist.

Moonbat (also "barking moonbat" and "moonbat crazy") is a term often used currently in U. S. politics as a political epithet referring to extremists, most often of the political left.[1] "Wingnut" (or "right wing nut") is frequently preferred as the analogous epithet aimed at extremists on the political right.[1]

Extremists!
According to an article by New York Times language maven William Safire, the term was first used by the famous science fiction author Robert A. Heinlein in 1947.[1] Heinlein used the term in a 1947 short story, "Space Jockey", as the name of the third stage of a rocket bound for the moon.

from the bush-bots that parrot the latest line from fox news. it is applied to right wing extremists, that pose as liberals on forums such as this, and present a false view, in a bid to sway the gullible.
