You usually need to install ram chips in matched pairs. You can tell if this is necessary by the number of slots you have. If you have 4, then you should match the speed and size of the memory. If you only have 3, then you may be ok. If there are only 2, then you should try to match them as well. If you do have a problem your system may not boot. It may just beep at you. If that happens, you do not need to worry, just pull the new memory out. Check the manual that came with the computer, it will tell you exactly what you need to do. If not, the try to find out the make of the Mother Board and hit Google. You should be able to find the exact memory configuration you need from the manufacturer. Good luck and remember to actually unplug your computer before you open the case and ground yourself by touching the metal chassis. Adding or swapping memory is an easy upgrade and gives you a lot of bang for the buck.

It may work on single channel mode. Matched pair is essential for running in dual channel memory mode. BUT adding 128Mb is hardly an "upgrade". 256Mb or bigger would be better.
