I'd like a cabin with ensuite but on a budget. Thought Port Macquarie might be good as its not too far off the highway.

Yamba is maybe 9 hours from Sydney - you could do it in a day.

I like Port Macquarie, and the caravan park has cabins near Town Beach and the breakwater. An alternative is Forster/Tuncurry a bit further south. Off the main drag, but the Lakes Way south of Forster to Bulahdelah is very scenic.

Theres a nice little coastal town called South West Rocks. About three hours drive sth of the NSW-QLD boarder, Great beach, small population, village atmosphere and plenty of accommodation. It's about 30 min off the hwy.

Coffs Harbour is also good but much larger, offering all soughts of accommodation for all budgets.

My favorite is Byron Bay, a bit pricey, and a few ex big city ferals running around but a very nice place to unwind and relax.

Good luck in your travels.
