Is it still possible for Americans to kidnap and lock someone up with out being charged with a crime or brought to a court?
And if not are the Americans who carry out these crimes themselves immune from prosecution.
I reefer to The Guantanamo Bay Prison camp.
Despite widespread international condemnation, hundreds of people of more than 30 nationalities are still there: without charge, and with little hope of obtaining a fair trial. Guantánamo Bay is a symbol of injustice and abuse and it must be closed down.

I hope in the long term Guantanamo will be viewed as the crime that it is and measures will be taken to prevent such abuse of power in the future. I don't foresee it getting better while the current administration holds power though.

The Patriot Act, which I strongly support, gives the United States the ability to protect itself from terrorists. I'd love to see 100 Guantanamo Bay Prison camps across the nation and I'd be willing to donate some of my own money to contribute to their construction. I have absolutely no pity for the people there. Criminals and threats to our county deserve what they get.

Answer: Yes to your first question...
And a resounding NO! to your second.
Armed un-uniformed thugs taken into custody on a battle field do not even fall under the Geneva Convention, much less America civil law!
And "widespread international condemnation"...Give us a break! Neither they or the countries those thugs came from want them! Why don't you add a wing on to Your house for them? I'll wager your neighbors will be thrilled to learn of their coming.

Yes...and what makes it all legal is your Patriot Act.

Kinda ironic that they would choose that name for something that essentially takes away the rights that your patriots have fought for and cherished all these years.
