The weather has played a key role in shaping Britain's history so in the past it's been of great importance. It's also quite unpredictable and changeable so it gives people something to make polite conversation about. Being British we tend to be friendly but reserved and the weather is a safe subject for anyone to take about.

It's also human nature to focus more on the negative than the positive. We've had a few days of bad weather but prior to that were several months of above average temperatures, below average rainfall and above average sunshine. That's why you're more likely to hear people discussing how awful the weather has been of late rather than how nice it's been.

In the larger scheme of thiungs this years has been the hottest on record so far with consistently above average sun and below average rain so all in all it's been a good start to the year.

You could always move to Los Angeles. But then you have a new problem.

No weather. And empty heads.
