People do crazy things, when they're high. Is Amsterdam not ashamed of itself?

I mean, people are on drugs, wether marijuana or crack. Even, if you're on soft drugs, you can do crazy bad things.

see , first of, people do crazy bad things regardless and no matter where you at. but the thing in holland is, it's "legal" so you don't have to sneek around to do it, you cna just buy your shitt and take it home or out on the street or in a coffeehouse to sit down and smoke it, no hastle around you anyways, or looking over ya shoulder if tha cops seein ya or tryin to getya hahahaha makes it more relaxed, and ofcourse we dutch are relaxed, we cool and not so violent anyhow. we cool people and we not ashamed of ourselves, you should be ashamed when you sneek around and do your drug thing, hustlin people making it look all that to be a dope dealer so that young kids will follow your *** to do the same, nah, we cool, i am all for the coffee houses and the legelasation of our canabis here.

If anything, America should feel ashamed that it prohibits everything yet still boats some of the highest amounts of criminal activity in the world! As an American, I feel extremely safe living here in Holland. I live in Rotterdam, but Amsterdam is only 40 minutes away and I visit quite often. It's clean, the people are extremely friendly, and the only problem I've ever really been cautious about is pick-pockets in the train stations. However, one should note that the majority of the pick-pockets are NOT Dutch - they are foreigners and tourists who are down on their luck. I've found Amsterdam to be amazing and the whole thing about the drugs is pure b.s. from untravelled, uneducated persons.

I seriously doubt that Amsterdam has more crackheads than London or New York

and people high on marijuana more often than not become a lot more placid and peaceful than they would otherwise be, it is very rare indeed for someone to become violent under the influence of weed, almost unheard of infact unless the person is a pyschotic or something anyway.

maybe you have just been indoctrined with anti-drug views and unable to really see the true picture as a result. Not necessarily your fault if you have, but expand your horizons man.

Should the Dutch allow Americans to visit Holland, as they are all gun carrying murderous lunatics?

You see the sheer idiocy, and closed mindedness of your question?

First of all "crack" is not a problem in Holland.
The "drug" of choice here is weed, in all its variations.

Having said that, about 15% of the dutch population smoke (compared to 100% of american tourists, who only come here to smoke) so not "everyone" is "high".

Also, many weed smokers usually become relaxed to the point they even fall asleep. Some will get violent, but they are a minority.
And , no, Amsterdam is not ashamed of anything - even about things they should be ashamed of.

I hope you will rephrase future questions, for quite frankly, this is offensive.

Not all the "City" is on crack because hard drugs are also not allowed in Holland. Amsterdam is a very fine, friendly city and don't get messed up with some wrong news/stories in the press.

I would say the United States has a worse drug problem than the Netherlands. Soft and hard drugs are strictly regulated in the Netherlands and as you would know if you had ever been there, most natives don't smoke or do drugs. ITs the tourists who freak out on drugs in Amsterdam not the natives...

When I went to Amsterdam in June of last year I felt absolutely safe.I went to many places in the UK and Europe last year and I have to say i felt more safe and laid back than any where else I had visited.Yes while I was there I frequented the coffee shops,it was all part of the experience. And in the coffee shops there were hardly ANY Natives and just about ALL tourists.I ran into 2 undercover cops trying to sell me crack,no one else....which says to me that, they must not tolerate it.Crack is not accepted in this country and marijuana is only tolerated. So please revise your questions before you ask them .You are obviously uneducated and untravelled and you need to read up on your facts before you go bashing one of the greatest cities the world has to offer us.

I feel very safe in Amsterdam! The fact that they do drugs - onto themselves! they don't bother others. Yes, am annoyed with these "social pests" on the streets. Its a waste of taxpayers money! Its just "uglier" with them around but why should Amsterdam feel ashame?!

Why do you think everybody in Amsterdam is on crack? My whole family lives there and none of them has ever used it. Yes, it is available that is true. No, Amsterdam is not ashamed of itself at all. Dope is available in this country, but does everybody use it?

most native people from holland have never or do not smoke marijuana....most of those people are tourists that do that. i believe last i heard 65% of the population had never tried it. and marijauna is the only legal drug there...not crack. there are also undercover police everywhere. u would never know. u are also only allowed to carry a certain amount of marijuana on you.
