there are 6 universal human emotions, only experienced by humans:
fear, joy, disgust, anger, surprise, sadness (primary emotions)
There are some who argue that some apes (chimps, bonobos) can also experience them.

humans are also able to develop secondary emotions, like pride, guilt, shame, and such, wich build upon the primary ones. (example: pride could not exist without joy)

culrure is also able to make its own emotions, like "being american" or "behaving like a pig"

I would classify them as positive and negative states with the most common being:

Positive. Happiness. Contentment. Satisfaction.

Negative. Depression. Sadness. Grief. Guilt. Anger. Fear. Anxiety. Frustration. Vulnerability.

There are only 2.

Love and fear.

All the rest are forms of these two that we have created pseudonyms for because we are afraid to admit what we are feeling for some reason.

Love and blessings Don
