Talking presupposes the fact that there is some one you are having a conversation with, meaning it is a two way exchange of information. While speaking is done with one or more audience and they(the audience) do not need to respond or answer to what you say to them, meaning it is a one way flow of information.

If you want to be grammatically correct, it would be: " I was speaking with my sister". Stating that we were speaking with each other, and not one doing all the talking, and one doing all the listening!
But I say talking to, all the time! I guess this is one that truly semantic!
