It is called a watch pocket! When Levi Strauss first made his jeans if a man had a watch,it was a pocket watch. The watch had a chain attached to the watch and was was clipped through a button hole in a shirt or a vest.

the small pocket on jeans was orignially put there by the american in the gold rush - it was there for the gold prospectors to put any bits of gold in without risk of it falling out or getting lost.

for those of you who are saying it is for pocket watches then

a) a watch pocket is found on your wascoat not your jeans

b) when have you ever seen a pocket watch that small

c) pocket watches are very expencive there for would not be placed in an area of the body that bends when sitting because it would get broken!

When Levi Strauss first began making jeans (they were called dungarees then) men used pocket watches, not wrist watches. That pocket was for their watch. They have continued to make jeans with that pocket. The kids think it is for condoms, which I guess is a good use for it now.

It's actually called a coin pocket. Now, was it designed to really hold change? I have no idea, just know it goes by coin pocket.

Like duked4 said, it's a "watch pocket." Men used to carry pocket watches and that pocket was made to stuff the watch in.

i think it is without problems slightly pocket for little issues. i take advantage of mine for my cellular telephone, as my important wallet are many times full of different issues and if the telephone is in there, and starts off ringing, the different individual is many times uninterested in waiting via the time i've got chanced on it... so the little pocket is attainable in to its own :-)

They are made for coins.
But you could use them for a lighter, condoms, lipstick or anything else that you need to carry that is small enough to fit into it.

Good question. I'd usually stuff loose coins when I don't want them to keep moving around in my bigger pockets.
