Thanks

Mostly they attest to signatures on legal documents. They are also authorized to perform marriage ceremonies.

A Notary has the duties of checking the identification of the person they are attesting the signature of as being authenticis' identification to prove that they are who they say they are (usually by looking at their driver's license and documenting pertinent info off of it) prior to the legal document or title being signed and that they personally witnessesed the document being signed.

Most Notaries keep a log book of all items they have notarized in case they are ever called to testify in Court when someone disputes signing a document.

If you become a Notary, don't EVER notarize something where you did not confirm or personally know the person's identity or notarize something you did not witness being signed...even if you do this once, if caught, you it nullifies any notarization you have ever done and could be charged both for civil damages and possible criminal penalties.

Many years ago when I was very young and employed at a bank, a Vice President at the bank demanded that I notarize something I had not witnesses or checked documents for; because I had the Notary Law class and knew it was not legal, I refused and he even threatened that I would lose my job until I contacted the Law Dept. of the bank and they verified that what he was asking me to do was illegal, would nullify not only the loan agreements i was to attest to, but any other document I had ever notarized and that there were severe civil and possible criminal penalties if I had done what he requested.

A public notarians are lawyers per se, and as per public notary is concern, they sign, sealed every document(s) you have for authenticity, meaning they are not bogus and those document can be presented to any public or private businesses you will transact in the future.

As a college student why would you be want to be a public notarian(?), it is all up to you, after college you have to study law to be able to be a public notarian. If you donot like well there are other profession you could come up with.
