why would Renault be so good last season and flop within such short time this season? what is involved in preparation for the race? It seems that a well tune car is so much more important than the driver. I am sure Louis Hamilton will not get the recognition he is enjoying if he is driving for Redbull.

In earlier years, the drivers were the fascinating aspect of F1, now less so, but to me it's no less interesting, the technical part of it and the strategy. I realize some people find that a bit sterile, to each his own I guess. And you're right, Lewis Hamilton is good, but he got a huge break by not having to pay his dues in the lower echelon, like everyone else did. Which is why it is going to take me a long time to get over being suspicious of his talent, and not really liking the guy. Not him so much, but his situation I guess.

A few reasons why F1 is more interesting.

1. No bloody awful ovals!
2. Turn #1 Lap #1 of any F1 race is probably the most exciting moment on sports
3. The amount of time and research the different teams put into there cars over the years, despite all the rules and regulations that have come down recently. How many NASCAR car's have had two pair of front wheels? None exactly! But F1 used to have teams that would do this.
4. Did I mention there were no Ovals? No time for drafting strategies
5. World wide courses, and the schedule changes from year to year.
6.

This is where the car companies compete against each other making the latest technology in engines (Nascar engines are based on big blocks from the 60/70s). As a result they learn to make good engines for the cars they actually sell.

Combine that with top drivers and you get interesting results. Unfortunately some of the technology aspects may make it less interesting in terms of aerodynamics and passing.

The absolute precision engineering, the awesome power of those machines, the speed and the fitness required from the drivers.I am willing to bet that if you gave the Red Bull car to Hamilton he would do better than the two current Red Bull drivers or die trying.Guts makes the final difference.M Schumacher proved that when he was driving for Benetton.

i ask myself this every fortnightly sunday. . then they line up for the grid and take off!!!
im hooked allover again
Renault, like Ferrari, made the catch 22 mistake of building a team around one driver. Once they go, they most often take the talent with them. McLaren and Williams (in the 80's and 90's!) were phenomenally successful as all the bosses had a "i dont care what you do to each other, just win!' mentality. Renault and Ferrari are victims of their own success.

Lewis Hamilton worked his backside off in the lower formulae to get where he is. He would be the first to say he was incredibly lucky he had the balls to speak to Ron Dennis and to be taken under his very substantial wing of experience. He is lucky his father worked and worked to subsidise his sons obvious lack of talent and he would say he was very lucky no-one overtook him or 2 consecutive races and that he had the nerve to treat Alonso with complete contempt around the banking at Indy

F1 has its moments, some of them are breathtaking some of them are dull as ditchwater, but we have a really good driver in Lewis, lets just enjoy it!

Renault have the problems they have now because Alonso left and there is no one to come in his place...If only Flavio would pay more..
Hamilton is doing well cauz his team is supporting only him...when schumaher was in ferrari, it was made clear to all the other drivers of Ferrari that Schumaher is the main guy and don't you compete with him...it wont work.
Hamilton will not last till the end of this season...its all toooo cheesy-easy for him...Hope its Alonso or Massa.

It's the pinnacle of motorsports. The cars have the latest technology and only the best drivers will be able to get the most out of them. the cars are faast and it takes driver skil and a good strategyto be able to win the race. pit stops have to be spot on or it could ruin the drivrs race

F1 is ballet at 300 km/h...it takes hard work and meticulous precision to maneuver cars around a circuit at that speed. Graceful. Awesome. That's what makes Formula 1 so fascinating.... :-D
