In short its just not seen as a rational step anymore. In western society there is much less of a stigma about co-habiting or having kids outside marriage. Also in the UK at least there are no tax benefits. So why bother going to the expense of getting married, besides most people see buying a house together and having kids as a bigger commitment.

Because they don't want to be tied down to (1) person forever and the way the rates of divorce are going they are afraid the relationship won't work later on.

Also, people like their own space and life and want to be independent and freedom. They don't want someone else to bother them or have to worry about the other person. People are more selfish now not like before people think "family" is important.

People dont get married as much anymore cuz we live in a society where most people live with their boyfreinds and girlfreinds so its like getting married except not as much commitment

its too much hassle. everything leading up to the big day is a stress, its all about money and showing off. people forget the real reason they're doing it...loads of marriages end up in divorce and battles over material things.whats the point? if u love someone you dont need a piece of paper telling you so.

Actually, marriage is on the upswing! Women are realizing that shacking up isn't really getting them anywhere, and want the commitment of marriage, especially with regard to children.

There is no stability in marriages as they are no longer the sacred union of the past .

There is too much sex outside marriages.
