That's an interesting question, so I'll give you an interesting answer. I wanted to be different from who and what I am, so this is what I did. I made a list of the things I am - my physical attributes, both what I like and don't like. Then I made a list of persons that I admire and what those things were. Then I made a conscious decision to make those changes. My hair was brown and now it is blond. I used to be really skinny and non-muscular and now I work out an look good.
I also admired the entire fictional crew of Star Trek: The Next Generation. So I incorporated some of the things that I liked about certain characters and incorporated them into my own persona. And now I am who and what I want to be.

Yes when I was younger I very much wanted to be someone else. I lied all the time constantly about all kinds of lame stuff in the hopes of portraying myself in a light that I thought was much better than my own life. It left me feeling utterly alone and misunderstood.
So I stopped lying.. and I am happier now.

Long ago. When you understand the problem of sorrow and envy, wishing or wanting to be anyone else will fade away.
